Le Terme di Caracalla - Baths of Caracalla
Lo scorso lunedì mattina ho accompagnato la signora Beth, una simpatica
signora Texana che ora vive in Florida, cliente del B&B St. John Villa, in uno splendido tour nel centro della Città Eterna.
Abbiamo iniziato con una passeggiata nel famoso mercato
vintage di Via Sannio per comprare vestiti, borse e accessori in pelle.
Successivamente abbiamo preso la macchina direzione Piazza San Giovanni, passando abbiamo visto il palazzo del Laterano, la Scala Santa e
l’Obelisco egizio dietro la Basilica.
Abbiamo continuato il nostro tour per le Terme di Caracalla, uno dei più grandi bagni pubblici dell’antica Roma, poi siamo arrivate alla
Piramide di Caio Cestio, abbiamo attraversato Porta San Paolo e, percorrendo via
Marmorata, siamo arrivate al Colle Aventino dove abbiamo visitato l’idilliaco
Giardino degli aranci per fare qualche foto panoramica. E qui non poteva
mancare la spettacolare veduta della cupola di San Pietro dalla serratura del
portone presso la Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta.
Dopo questa rilassante passeggiata, abbiamo ripreso la
macchina per fare un giro intorno al Circo Massimo, l’antico stadio dove i
Romani facevano le corse a cavallo con i carri.
Dopo aver attraversato il Tevere da ponte Garibaldi siamo
arrivate al quartiere di Trastevere per vedere l’antica chiesa di Santa Maria
in Trastevere.
Infine abbiamo deciso di mangiare qualcosa di tipico in un ristorante
nei pressi di Piazza Navona per dare uno sguardo anche all’architettura Barocca
Romana.

Last Monday
morning I accompanied Beth, a nice lady from Texas now living in Florida,
hosted at the St. John Villa B&B, to have a wonderful tour in the center of
the Eternal City.
We started
from Via Sannio Market one of the famous Vintage Market in Rome, to buy leather
clothes, bags and accessories.
Than we
took the car to St. John Lateran Square, we gave a look to the Palace, the Holy Steps and
the Egyptian Obelisk behind the Basilica.
We
continued our tour to the Baths of Caracalla, the second largest Roman public
bath, and arrived to the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, then we crossed the St. Paul
Gate, and trough Via Marmorata, we arrived to the Aventine Hill where we visit the
idyllic Orange Trees Garden to take some panoramic photos. Then we enjoyed the
stunning view of the St. Peter’s Dome through the keyhole of the gate in the Knights of Malta Square.
After this
relaxing walk, we went with the car around the ancient Roman chariot racing
stadium, the Circus Maximus.
We crossed
the Tiber on Garibaldi bridge and arrived to the Trastevere district to look the
medieval Church of St. Mary in Trastevere.
At the end,
we decided to have lunch in a typical Italian restaurant in Navona Square to
look the Baroque Roman architecture.
